Gavin Friday Reimagines Ecce Homo: A Soho Fever Dream, Youthful Defiance, and Dancefloor Alchemy
March 6, 2026
Cabarotica Youtharella Remix EP
Release date 6th March 2026
Following the release of his critically acclaimed album Ecce Homo, Gavin Friday continues his expansive remix campaign with a new EP arriving to coincide with his European tour. This latest instalment, Cabarotica Youtherella follows the already released The Church Of Love and Dancing Remix EP and Lovesubzero Ian Pooley Remix, each offering distinct reinterpretations that bridge Friday’s theatrical intensity with contemporary electronic vision.
As with its predecessors, the new collection reimagines key album moments through the sensibilities of producers drawn to Friday’s singular world, one shaped by identity, faith, sexuality, memory, and transformation. These remixes do not merely update the originals for the club; they excavate new emotional strata, shifting the songs between shadowy cabaret, nocturnal reverie, and ecstatic release.
Cabarotica emerges as a hallucinatory love letter to London’s Soho, specifically the raw, transgressive landscape of 1982, when the Virgin Prunes lived and worked there and the district throbbed as an epicentre of the obscene, the decadent, and the visionary. Friday conjures rain-slick Piccadilly nights, neon reflections, and the presence of mystics and misfits threading through forbidden streets. In contrast to today’s sanitised Soho, the track preserves the danger, eroticism, and spiritual intensity of a vanished world.
When the World Was Young reaches back even further, to Cedarwood Road in Dublin, a personal tribute to three thirteen-year-old boys: Bono, Guggi, and Gavin himself. Yet the song ultimately transcends autobiography, becoming a hymn to youthful self-belief and DIY possibility. Dedicated to the “Youtherella” of today, it celebrates the fearless imagination and creative autonomy that allow young people to shape their own futures.
Across the EP, each remixer brings a distinct emotional lens to the material: Jon Pleased Wimmin reframes When the World Was Young as a luminous, life-affirming anthem of youthful possibility; Michael Heffernan draws out the romantic pulse and decadent intimacy at the heart of Cabarotica; Daybreakers propel the same song into a hypnotic, late-night reverie of shadow and motion; and Rick Wade reshapes Ecce Homo with his signature deep, soulful minimalism, together preserving Friday’s poetic core while opening portals into strikingly different sonic worlds.
