  • Rattlebag, appreciating David Bowie

    Gav will “slip into something glittery and take a trip down memory lane” on RTE Radio One’s ‘Rattlebag’ today at 2.45pm Irish time, to discuss his appreciation of Bowie. Update: Today’s Rattlebag broadcast was hindered by server problems at RTE, and a political debate replaced the repeat, so we’re making Gavin’s interview available on this site. Click to listen.   • Jokers get auctioned

    Gavin’s 2001 Art:pack contribution, will be auctioned off on Wednesday April 10th. The original art works from Art:pack, the best-selling deck of cards designed by leading contemporary artists, including a joker by Bono, will be auctioned by Christie’s at the Royal Hibernian Academy on April 10th 2002. Art:pack has sold over 25,000 copies and has raised almost €500,000 for the Irish Hospice Foundation. Viewing takes place on Tuesday April 9th 2002 at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Ely Place from 12 noon to 5pm and on Wednesday April 10th from 11am to 4pm followed by a reception at 6pm with…

  • Friday/Seezer record Peter and the Wolf

    Gavin, who is recovering from back surgery, Maurice, and the Friday/Seezer ensemble will be going into Windmill Lane studio early next month to record Peter and the Wolf as the Irish Hospice Foundation’s 2002 project. The cd will be released with an illustrated booklet. In recent years, the IHF has released similar projects to raise money: last year’s Art:Pack, and before that the Whoseday Book. In June they will start recording the soundtrack for Jim Sheridan’s new film, for a September release.

  • 2002 Meteor Ireland Music Awards

    Gavin is nominated in the Best Irish Solo Male category of the 2002 Meteor Ireland Music Awards. The awards are held tonight in the Point Depot in Dublin.

  • Disco Pigs out on DVD

    The Kirsten Sheridan film Disco Pigs (2001) for which Gavin and Maurice did the score is out on DVD this month. You can pre-order it from BlackStar. Gavin has a little cameo in this film too. No soundtrack album was released for this film, so this DVD is the currently the only way to hear the score.

  • Friday and Seezer work on In America score

    Gavin and Maurice are currently in the studio working on a score for Jim Sheridan’s new film for 20th Century Fox. The film is roughly based on Sheridan’s own experiences a young man in New York. Working title: ‘New York Story’. (Although the IMDB has it listed as ‘East of Harlem’) Expected release for the film is September 2002. Later this year they will be recording ‘Peter and the Wolf’ with the Friday/Seezer ensemble (Julia Palmer, Renaud Pion, Gary Hughes, Des Moore).

  • Art:pack auction

    From artpack.ie: Christies will be auctioning off the original art works for “Art:pack”, the pack of cards designed by Irish artists (including jokers by Gavin, Bono and an Ace of Clubs by Guggi) in aid of the Irish Hospice Foundation. The event will take place at The Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin. Viewing will be all day Tuesday April 9th with a reception on Wednesday April 10th at 6.00pm, followed by the auction at 7.30pm.

  • Friday reference in Chinese novel

    Chinese writer Wei Hui’s novel Shanghai Baby contains a reference to Gavin as an icon to one of the characters. Wei Hui says she has heard his music and seen pictures of him “wearing women’s clothes and make up.”
