Came So Far For Beauty – Dublin – Review
Read more: Came So Far For Beauty – Dublin – ReviewCame So Far For Beauty – reviewed by Stuart Hardy Is it really three weeks since I was in Dublin, enjoying breakfast after the first night of the Came So Far For Beauty tribute to Leonard Cohen (orchestrated by Hal Willner (long time collaborator and producer of Gavin Friday’s albums ‘Each Man Kills the Thing He Loves’, ‘Adam ‘n’ Even’) and performed at The Point Depot as part of the 2006 Dublin Theatre Festival)? It feels like yesterday. It was an amazing show, with such a wealth and diversity of talent. It’s taken a while to digest. I’ve thought about…

Sculpture in Context 2006
Read more: Sculpture in Context 2006Piece written by Gavin Friday about the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin for Sculpture in Context 2006, Glasnevin, Dublin 9 The National Botanic Gardens in Glasnevin Dublin is in my mind quite possibly the ‘Jewel in the Crown’ of Northside Dublin… yes there is more to the Northside than the Airport… lots more… but the ‘Bots’, as I call it, has a special place in my heart. It was where myself and my mates, way back in the early 1970’s, spent many a summer Sunday. We were gob-smacked by it’s beauty we had never seen the likes of it .…

Rogue’s Gallery reviewed: ‘salty odes’
Read more: Rogue’s Gallery reviewed: ‘salty odes’USA Today: “Aside from a few duds (contributions from Lou Reed and Bryan Ferry seem more suited for a cruise soundtrack), this is premium booty, especially Bono’s A Dying Sailor to His Shipmate, Lucinda Williams’ Bonnie Portmore, Sting’s Blood Red Roses and tracks by Teddy Thompson, Jolie Holland, Joseph Arthur and Rufus Wainwright. The real grog-guzzling centerpieces are a very salty tune by Gavin Friday and Loudon Wainwright III’s outrageously bawdy Good Ship Venus.” Toronto Sun: “But give the real props to the inspired Willner, who uncovered all this buried treasure, put together the sessions and helped this pack of…

They tossed their ball again so high, Then again so low, They tossed it into a flower garden And no one was allowed to go. Out stepped this gypsy lady, All dressed in yellow and green; “Come in, come in, my sweet little boy, And get your ball again,’ “I won’t come in, I shan’t come in, Without my playmates all; I’ll go get father ‘n tell him about it…
